France v Belgium and Portugal v Georgia in the Semis
19/03/2016 - 31/03/2017
Hosts Portugal join Champions France in the Semis.
There was a shock in store on Day 1 of the REU18C as 5th seeds Belgium stunned favourites Russia, winning 8-6 in the opening match of the Tournament at the rain soaked Estadio National Do Jamor, thanks to a last minute try from Rayan Leduc.
That was however, to be the only surprise of the day as last year’s beaten finalists, Georgia eased past Romania 49-10 to book their Semi Final berth.
Elsewhere, Champions France ground down a determined Spanish side overcoming a tough first half before running out 56-14 with an outstanding individual performance from Romain Ntamack who racked up 25 points.
In the Championship division’s, last game of the day hosts Portugal overran Germany by 64-5 with some outstanding back play, not least from replacement fly half Vasco Morais, who ran the show in the second half with chips and flicks to set the back line free, much to the delight of the considerable home support.
In Tuesday’s Semi Finals, France take on Belgium while hosts Portugal face Georgia whilst Spain play Russia and Germany take on Romania, all aiming for a best possible 5th place finish.
